Changes are coming to teams in the Western Athletic Conference as well as to District 8 for the Liberal Redskins in 2014 and 2015.
The Kansas State High School Activities Association released the district realignments, and Liberal will not have Bishop Carroll in District 8 for the next two seasons.
Arkansas City will join Liberal, Goddard and Goddard-Eisenhower in 2014 and 2015 for district play.
Bishop Carroll has been shifted to District 7, which includes Maize, Maize South and Valley Center.
The Western Athletic Conference will also see one of its members drop to Class 4A.
The Hays Indians will fall to Class 4A with a student population of 548. Liberal ahs a student population in the freshman, sophomore and junior classes of 964. Liberal was 51 students away from Class 6A which began at 1015 students.
Private school Shawnee Mission Bishop Miege also slipped from Class 5A to Class 4A as the largest school in the classification with 550 students. St. James Academy, another private school, moved into the classification in football. St. James was already 5A in other sports which measures the sophomore, junior and senior class populations to determine classification.
Liberal is the fifth largest school in Class 5A.
