The Lady Saints came into Wednesday night’s match with Hutchinson on a six-match winning streak. By the end of the night, the streak had been snapped after falling in three sets, 22-25, 24-26, 18-25.
Despite a strong start to the match, Seward failed to take advantage in the first set. Up by as many as five at one point, the Lady Saints could not take advantage, and dropped the opening set 22-25.
The second set was filled with plenty of back-and-forth action, as both teams exchanging the lead throughout the set. In the end, Hutchinson scored consecutive points to put an end to the set, 24-26.
Having dropped the first two sets in heart-breaking fashion, the Lady Saints looked a little tired in the third set.
Seward dug themselves into a hole early in the set, and spent the rest of the set trying to claw their way out of it.
The Lady Dragons controlled the set and took the match despite a valiant effort from the Lady Saints.
The loss ended Seward County’s six-match winning streak, and was their first since Sept. 27, against the same Lady Dragons in Hutchinson. That match also ended in three sets.
The Lady Saints are 17-12 this year, with a 7-3 record in Region VI play.
Seward Countty will be in Garden City on Saturday to take on the Busters. The Lady Saints will return to the Greenhouse Tuesday, Oct. 22 to take on Dodge City.
