Betty Eltha Innis, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver after suffering a stroke and brief illness.

She was born on May 10, 1930, to Leonard and Eltha Brown in Dodge City.

She was a graduate of the University of Kansas in music education and of Tulsa University where she earned a master’s degree in piano performance.

She taught music in the public schools, piano in her private studio and, while living in Bartlesville, Okla., was on the music faculty of the college now known as Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Colorado Springs and of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter in Woodland Park.

She was both a member and a judge for the National Guild of Piano Teachers for many years.

She is survived by her husband, E. Eugene Innis, Woodland Park, Colo.; two sons, Steve, Dallas, and David, Franklin, Tenn.; a brother, Philip Brown; two grandchildren, Isom and Isabella, Los Angeles; her daughters-in-law, Nancy and Adrienne;  and sisters-in-law, Linda Kaye Brown, Meade, and Mary Archer, Houston.

• Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Meade United Methodist Church and will later move to Graceland Cemetery of Meade.

A celebration of life will take place at a date and time to be determined at the First United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs.

Memorials are suggested to the music department of her church in Colorado Springs.
