The Seward County Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. to discuss a variety of items.
Bids for sheriff’s office vehicles were opened in the county clerk’s office at noon Friday, Oct. 11, 2013. Three bids were turned in for consideration.
The bids will be discussed by the county commission regular meeting today.
According to road & bridge department director Tony Herrman, a discussion began back in 2012 between Tony Whisenant and the commission regarding the clean-up and resetting of stones and fencing around the Springfield Cemetery.
Since road & bridge was asked for help, they visited with the landowner and determinded the approximate location of where the original stones had been set and went from there to reset said stones and put a fence up around that area.
The road & bridge dept. absorbed the costs of clean up, resetting the stones and placement of the fence, Herrman said.
The road & bridge dept. is recommending around $2500 for having set a stone memorial in the location with the names of others buried in the cemetery whose monuments are missing.
The Conditional Use Application CU2013-03 will also be discussed today.
The commission hosted a public hearing on this application Oct. 14, and the commission unanimously recommends the approval of this application.
The application was submitted by John and Teresa Stonestreet for 62 foot by 120 foot metal shop building for commercial/farm use.
According to planning & zoning, there will be no financial impact.
However, the application must be approved with the following conditions: of all construction permits must be obtained prior to construction and all inspections must be requested and completed in accordance with building department requirements. Constuction permit issuance is contingent upon meeting all applicable code requirements, including separation distances.
An applicant is requesting a waiver of the zoning regulations so that they may build a new home while maintaining a manufactured home at the same location.
Zoning regulations only allow one residential structure per parcel.
According to planning and zoning, the financial impact will be none.
If approved, planning & zoning recommends a time limit of 60 days after completion of new home for removal of the manufatured home. planning & zoning also suggests consideration of options to ensure removal of old home.
The sheriff office and health department are currently in need of a new phone system, according to IT/County Wide.
The purpose of a new phone system would be to save money and improve the system.
The financial impact of $19,476 annually, assuming a $4,000 monthly to Zito.
AT&T is looking to re-sign multiple contracts, and it is recommended a county wide phone system be provided by Zito Media, IT/County Wide said.
It is recommended by Outside Agency/Administration to authorize the contract between Seward County and Hay, Rice and Associates not to exceed $37,500 to be paid out of the General Courthouse-Augitor line item for funding year 2014.
There is a contract that was made and will be entered today between Southwest Housing, LLC and Board of County Commissioners of Seward County, Kansas.
The contract discussed will cover the details of the selling and buying of real property at the price of $50,000.
Lastly, there will be an executive session.
