The Lady Saints hosted the Otero Lady Rattlers Friday afternoon in a preseason matchup. Seward was able to come out on top with a 67-57 victory.
There was plenty of back and forth action in the early going. The Lady Saints grabbed an early lead, but was unable to create much distance.
After Otero took a 21-17 lead, Seward responded with a 19-7 run over the final eight minutes of the half to take a 36-27 lead into halftime.
Leading by 12 early in the second half, the Lady Saints went on a 12-2 run over five minutes to extend their lead to 20. Seward’s biggest lead of the game was 21.
The Lady Rattlers chipped away at the Lady Saints lead over the final 10 minutes, but were unable to overcome the significant deficit in the end.
Sophomore forward Shanise Brooks led Seward with 18 points. Guard Fabiana Monte chipped in with 12 points of her own.
Freshman guard Brianna Scott had a rough afternoon shooting the ball, but finished the game with eight points on the day.
The Lady Saints will officially begin their season Friday at the Greenhouse when they take on Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in the Pepsi Classic. Tip-off for the game will be at 6 p.m.
