The West Warriors girl’s basketball A and B teams took the court at home Monday afternoon, and both teams walked out victors after defeating the Hugoton Eagles.

The B team took the floor first, and jumped out to an early advantage. The Warriors pushed the ball up the floor, and suffocated the Hugoton offense with a stingy defense, leading to a 12-4 West advantage.

Leading 14-7 at the half, the Warrior turned up the heat in the third quarter, and extended their lead to 21-13 heading into the final quarter of play.

West put the exclamation mark on the game in the fourth, not allowing the Eagles another point, and coming away with a 24-13 win.

In the A game, both teams struggled out of the gate, but West led 2-0 after one.

The offensive output was turned up by both teams in the second, and despite an improved performance in the second quarter by Hugoton, the Warriors had an 8-5 lead at halftime.

The Eagles closed the gap in the third quarter, getting to within one at 12-11 going to the fourth.

Both teams again struggled, but Hugoton outscored West in the quarter to make it a 14-14 game at the end of regulation to force overtime.

In the extra period of play, the Warriors came out aggressive, and scored two early baskets to put the game away, 18-14.

The Warrior eighth grade teams were also in action Monday afternoon against the Eagles, in Hugoton.

West’s eighth-grade A team fell 42-25, and the B team struggled to find a way to score in a 26-3 loss.
