Seward County Lady Saint Annelise Sanchez signed a letter of intent with the University of Texas-Permian Basin Falcons Thursday afternoon.

“It’s a really exciting time in my life,” Sanchez said. “I’m really excited to go down there and get to play.”

As an outside hitter for the Seward County the past two seasons, Sanchez was named to the All-Jayhawk second team this year, after being an honorable mention as a freshman in 2012.

Sanchez finished the season second on the team in kills with 373, and was wourth on the team with 273 digs.

The resume Sanchez built while a member of the Lady Saints helped her earn a two-and-a-half year scholarship at UTPB. Sanchez credits coach Bert Luallen and her teammates for the things she has learned while at Seward County.

“To play for coach Luallen was probably one of the greatest things ever,” Sanchez said. “I really admire coach Luallen, and everything he’s been able to teach me, especially with this group of girls this year. It’s been awesome.”

Sanchez will be heading to Odessa, Texas to join a Falcons team that has struggled this season, with a 10-18 record up to this point in the season.

“Being a Falcon soon really excites me,” Sanchez said. “Especially since I am going in January. It’s something that I’ve been waiting for, and to be able to go down there and get started soon is really exciting.”

She hopes to bring a different dynamic to their offense, and help the team get on a winning track.

“I hope to bring more variety as far as hitting,” Sanchez said. “I’m really excited to maybe just get up on the front row and put some balls down on the outside.”

Sanchez expressed her gratitude for the supports she has received since joining the Lady Saints.

“I just want to thank everybody for all the support they’ve given me,”Sanchez said. “And really coming together as a community and a team. It’s really been great.”
