Obituary

Meryl Holsted, 88, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, in Shawnee, Okla.

He was born Aug. 22, 1925, to Henry and Nellie (Lashley) Holsted in Morganville.

He graduated from Clay Center High School.

He married Betty Shobe Sept. 4, 1979 in Wheeler, Texas. She survives.

He served his country during World War II in the Merchant Marines a branch of the Navy. He later purchased the Shamrock service station in Liberal on Hwy. 54. He later sold the station and went to work for Carlile Asphalt and then retiring from the street department with the City of Liberal.

He enjoyed tinkering and was able to work on and drive anything from a mover to a road grader. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially the mountains in Colorado.

He is also survived by his son, Scott Holsted, St. Petersburg, Fla.; his daughter, Nitena Volden, St. Petersburg; his step-daughter, Kim Moore, Branson, Mo.; his grandsons, Jeremy and Kyle Holsted,  Joshua and Tobias McGlenn, St Petersburg, and Adam Salley, Alec Salley and Andrew Salley, Branson; granddaughter, Molley Salley; many nieces, including Ila Mansfield Hittle and husband, Dan, Pratt; brother-in-law, Donald Shobe,  Oklahoma City; one sister-in-law, Rhea Mansfield, Concordia; and many  nephews and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bobby; and two sisters, Nelda and Hester.

• Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Walker presiding.

Burial will follow at the Tecumseh Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. Thursday through service time.
