South rally falls short, Apaches lose to crosstown Warriors 30-27 PDF Print E-mail

After falling behind by as many as 11 points, th South Lady Apaches rallied against their cross-town rivals at South Thursday before falling three points short, 30-27.

West used a strong second quarter to break a 5-5 tie and take an 18-7 lead at half.Ali Lucero helped the Lady Warriors with a three-pointer, and Demaris Neal added six points in the period.

But South outscored West 10-6 in the third quarter to time the West lead to 24-17.

The Lady Apaches continued to provide defensive pressure in the fourth quarter and again outscored West 10-6 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough in the three-point loss.

Tania Minjarez led the Lady Warriors with nine points. Neal scored eight, Jadyn Williams added six, Lucero had five, and Elizabeth Luebbers scored two.

Evelyn Rios was a force inside for the Lady Apaches, scoring 13 points to lead all scorers including seven in the fourth quarter.

Patty Alfaro scored six, Cynthia Amaro added four, Audris Lujan chipped in three, and Alondra Alvarado hit a free throw.
