Obituary

JOHNSON – Allan Bakewell Neely Jr., 93, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

He was born Aug. 4, 1920, to Allan Bakewell Sr. and Sophia (Johnson) Neely in Salina.

He married Juanita Nicholas Jan. 25, 1944, on the naval base at College Station, Texas. She preceded him in death.

He graduated high school in Minneapolis, Kan., and attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1943

He raised cattle and was active in beef judging, both in high school and college. He enlisted in the Navy and served stateside as an aviation electronics technician until 1946. He taught school in Big Bow for one year before taking a farming situation on the Mac Craig farm north of Johnson, which he farmed until 1965. He later worked for Hesston Manufacturing, Lundall Equipment, and Cosco Homes. He then worked several years for the Friendswood Church in Friendswood, Texas.

He attended activities and meals at the senior center for several years. He also spent many hours writing an autobiography to his children.

Survivors include his sons, Marlon Ray Neely and wife, Sukoshi, Littleton, Colo., and Lowell Dean Neely and wife, Shirley, Pearland, Texas; his daughter, Norma Jean Nicholas, Holcomb; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Dorene Neely; two sisters-in law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Maylon Kay Neely; brother, Thomas Neely; and son-in-law, Duane Nichols.

o Funeral service will be at 2 p.m.  Saturday at the Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Johnson, with Pastor Richard Fitzgerald presiding.

Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Senior Center of Finney County in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 715, Johnson, KS 67855.
