TURPIN, Okla.— The Tyrone Lady Bobcats needed a spark, trailing Turpin 22-15 with less than four minutes left in the first half. Dumler provided that spark scoring 20 of her game-high 32 points in the final 17 minutes to lead Tyrone to a 48-40 win over the Lady Cardinals.
Dumler hit her first three of the game with just 44 second left in the first half, and the bucket cut the Turpin lead to just two. She added three more baskets from beyond the arc in the third quarter that lifted the Lady Bobcats to a 35-31 at the end of the third quarter.
But uit was Alondra Alives’ three to start the fourth quarter that gave the Lady Bobcat the gap they needed to hold on for the win.
“She (Dumler) was big for us tonight,” Lady Bobcats coach Clay Witt said. “She was kind of streaky, but got hot at the right time.”
Turpin’s Ashley Funk did her best to keep the Lady Cardinals within striking distance, scoring 7 of her team-high 20 in the fourth quarter. Freshman Hannah Weber added 12 points.
But Turpin could get no closer than six, as Tyrone made 6 of 11 free throws down the stretch.
“It was an ugly game, but that happens early in the season,” Witt said. “We were lucky to get out of here with a win. We got some depth out of this game. We got in foul trouble and had to play some girls that haven’t played much.”
In the first half, the game was a seesaw battle with both teams exchanging the lead. Dumler scored all eight of Tyrone’s first quarter points to give the Lady Bobcats an 8-5 lead.
An 8-2 run by the Turpin put the Lady Cardinals up 13-10 with 6:02 left in the half. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the half with Turpin taking a 23-20 lead in at the break.
“Thought we played pretty well in the first half,” Lady Cardinals coach Jeff Funk said. “We came out in the second half and could not execute. We couldn’t even get into our offense to run it. But we’re starting a freshman and two sophomores so we’re still learning out there.”
Tyrone (2-1) will travel to Boise City Friday night for their next contest. Turpin (0-1) will host the Fowler Goldbugs Friday night.
