The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has appointed a new game warden to the Southwest Kansas area. He will have responsibilities in Seward, Meade and Haskell counties.

Casey Gamble is the new natural resource officer, as game wardens are now classified. He has replaced officer Troy Hurlbut, who has been transferred to the Russell area in eastern Kansas.

Gamble is not unfamiliar with western Kansas, and he also admitted he is a dedicated outdoorsman.

“I’m from a small town west of Hutchinson,” Gamble said. “My father taught me to hunt when I was a young child, and it has stuck with me and become a very important part of my life today.”

Hunting is not the only outdoor activity Gamble enjoys.

“During the warmer seasons, I spent my time on the banks of a small pond at the edge of town happy to catch whatever was biting that day,” he said.

Gamble graduated from Emporia State University with a BS in environmental biology, and he also played football there.

“As much as I love being in the outdoors, I knew there were only two careers that I would be happy with,” Gamble said. “Since it’s harder to become a professional hunter than a professional athelete, I set my heart on becoming a game warden, or natural resource officer as is the new terminology.”

Gamble’s contact information is: P.O. Box 951, Meade, KS 67864, and his phone number is (620) 873-5328.

“I encourage every sportsman or sportswoman to program my number into their phones to report wildlife violations as soon as possible,” he said. “If there is no answer, please contact the local sheriff’s department.

“I’m looking forward to serving the people of Southwest Kansas – and all its visitors – to the best of my ability,” Gamble added.
