FORGAN, Okla. — The Forgan Lady Bulldogs sprinted out to a 19-0 lead and forced Waynoka into 25 turnovers on their way to a 65-35 win in the opening round of the district 4 tournament.

“The defense really got us going, and got us a good jump start on the game,” said Lady Bulldogs coach Brett Trippet.

Forgan forced turnover after turnover with their full-court pressure, and scored most of their points in the paint on fast breaks.

Jaci McGill’s first of four long range bombs popped the net with 3:37 left in the first quarter to give the Lady Bulldogs a 19-0 lead, on their way to a 24-5 lead after one period. Forgan led 35-14 at the half.

Waynoka was able to get close shots in the second half, as Forgan was a little flat coming out of the half.

“I thought our defense was really good early, and then we just lost our intensity,” said Trippet. “As a coach you hope they never lose their intensity but I remember as a player when you get a big lead it can be hard to keep that focus.”

Forgan’s shooters did not have any trouble regaining their focus in the fourth quarter, hitting six three’s  (from four different players) in less than six minutes, to seal the deal and move the Lady Bulldogs on to the district finals.

“We’ve got a few shooters,” said Trippet.” Hopefully we’ll keep shooting the ball well. Allison Watson shot the ball well tonight. She has been a good shooter through the years but she has struggled a little bit this year.  She’s capable of shooting it well and that makes us a lot better team.”

Watson finished the game 3 of 5 from beyond the arc and totaled 11 points.  Seniors Miranda Lopez and Jaci McGill each scored 13, Kenzi Taylor 11, Samantha Leisher 9, and Lindsey Trippet 8.

Forgan  is now 21-2, and will host Fort Supply Saturday in the district finals.
