Frances Margaritte Schaffter, 92, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Cedar Cottage Assisted Living in Bemidji, Minn.
She was born March 17, 1921, to George and Aloyse (Strickland) Long in St. John.
She married John Blair Poulton in Liberal. He died in 1958.
She then married Thorne Schaffer in Raton, N.M. He preceded her in death.
She graduated from Liberal High School in 1939.
During WWII, she worked in Long Island in a factory helping to make radar for B- 29s.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Pi for 50 years and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 45 years. In Liberal, she was also a volunteer with the hospital auxiliary, a docent at the Liberal Art Museum, and member of the Quilting Guild.
She is survived by two sons, Paul (Rita) Poulton, Bemidji, and Max (Theresa) Poulton, Atlanta; three grandchildren, Lisa (Jim) Fryar, Atlanta, Matthew (Jennifer) Poulton, Atlanta, and Ben Poulton, Bemidji; and one great-granddaughter, Finley Blackwell Poulton.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
• Family graveside services were at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at the Liberal Cemetery.
