Stout defense, effective transition offense, and big games from their big men led the Forgan Bulldogs to a runaway, 73-36 win over the Beaver Dusters in this year’s first installment of the 6-Mile War.

Forgan set the tone of the game early holding Beaver to just four points in the first quarter. Forgan pulled ahead by over 20 with a late second quarter run that made the score 38-16 at half.

“We ran some full court man and kept steady pressure on them,” Bulldogs coach Todd Kerr said. “We were able to wear them down and pull away late in the second quarter.”

The Bulldogs pushed the lead over 30 with a 24-13 advantage in the third quarter to make the score 62-29.

“I’m really pleased with the way we are handling things right now,” Kerr said. “I think we’re really good at the defensive end and that led to a lot of easy scoring opportunities. I think there is still a lot of room for improvement at both ends of the floor.”

Forgan’s Demetrius Alston led all scorers with 23 points on 9 of 14 shooting; Jace Kerr tallied 21 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field. Luis Ordonez was 5 of 6 from the field for 12 points, and Chandler Bryer added 10 points.

Jorge Rivera scored 10 for the Dusters. Garrett Weber also scored 10.

Forgan (2-0) will take on the Laverne JV Wednesday in the first round of the Laverne Tournament. The Laverne varsity is not available for the tournament after the state football championship had to be moved back a weekend.

Beaver (2-2) will host Gruver, Texas Tuesday before heading to the Rolla Tournament starting Thursday.
