Big second quarter puts Forgan in tourney finals

A 22-7 second quarter propelled the Forgan Bulldogs to a 72-41 win over the Buffalo Bison and a trip to the championship game of the Laverne Invitational.

Forgan led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter, but blew the game wide open with a second quarter surge that put the Bulldogs ahead by 22 at half (41-19).

The Bulldogs outscored the Bison 14-12 in their third and 17-10 in the fourth to win by 31.

Forgan was 21-46 from 2-point range, and 7-17 from 3-point range. Forgan converted 9 of 13 free throws, and held Buffalo to just 29 percent from the field.

Forgan also won the turnover battle 17-8.

Forgan will take on Seiling, who defeated Texhoma, in the finals tonight.

 

 

Bad third quarter dooms Lady Bulldogs

The Forgan Lady Bulldogs went down to the Shattuck Lady Indians 41-29 in the semifinals of the Laverne Invitational.

A bad third quarter for the Lady Bulldogs put a close game out of reach. Shattuck outscored the Lady Bulldogs 12-2 in the third to turn a six-point game at half into a 16-point game (34-18).

Forgan tried to battle back in the fourth, but could not get the deficit to single digits.

Shattuck started out the game with a 10-5 advantage in the first quarter. Forgan got on track in the second but were still outscored by one (12-11).

Forgan finished the game 0-13 from 3-point range, and just 8-24 from inside the arc. The Lady Bulldogs were 13-20 at the line.

Shattuck hit five threes to help their cause.

Gabby Morales led all Lady Bulldogs scorers with 7. Alex McBee and Nikki Taylor each had 6.

Forgan will play today at 4:15 for third place against Texhoma.
