The Forgan Bulldogs added another tournament championship to their trophy case Friday night by defeating the Seiling Wildcats 68-57 to win the Laverne Invitational.

Playing their fourth game on the road in four days, it was not an easy win for the Bulldogs who caught a team in Seiling with a hot hand in the second half.

After scoring just 17 points in the first half, Seiling exploded offensively for 29 points in the third quarter. Forgan was able to keep pace, but did see their 12 point halftime lead cut in half.

“I thought it was one of the better games we played defensively,” Bulldogs coach Todd Kerr said. “They didn’t get very many easy looks. They had one kid who really got going in the third and that got their whole team going. We ran multiple looks at him, but sometimes when a guy gets going it’s hard to shut him down. Offensively we were consistent and got the shots we wanted.”

The game stayed close through the fourth quarter as Forgan continued to hold a 4-6 point lead through the fourth. The Bulldogs made free throws down the stretch to win by nine.

“I think anytime you have to fight and battle it’s going to make you stronger,” Kerr said. “Being on the road for four straight games is good for us. Showed us where we were at and what we need to work on. I believe we have a tremendous upside if we’ll keep putting in the work.”

Both offenses were sluggish to start the game, but Forgan was still able to build a 13-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. A 16-10 advantage in the second gave the Bulldogs a 29-17 lead at the break.

Forgan finished the game 19 of 44 inside the arc, and 6 of 16 beyond it. Forgan also made 12 of 24 free throws. Seiling was 12 o 29 from two, and 7 of 24 from three, and made 12 of 20 free throws.

Forgan (6-0) will host Balko Tuesday.
