Lorena Evelyn Pifer, 89, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at her home in Liberal,.
She was born Feb. 27, 1924, to Jesse and Maude (Milburn) Simmons in Morton County.
She married Franklin H. Pifer Sept. 26, 1948, at Lamar, Colo. He died Dec. 5, 2004.
She attended Hugoton High School, graduating as salutatorian, Class of 1942.
She was a secretary at the Liberal Air Base following graduation and then she was an office manager for the Blue Bonnet Apartments. She and her husband bought Alene’s Cafe in 1959 later opening The Place To Eat retiring in 1987.
She enjoyed sewing, playing piano, reading and her grandchildren.
Her survivors include her son, John Franklin Pifer, Liberal; daughter, Marie Wyer and husband, Jackie, Liberal; one brother, Ross Simmons, Hugoton; one sister, Rachel Reece, Lamar; three granddaughters; and 10 great-grandkids.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and one great-grandson.
o Funeral ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Miller Mortuary with Pastor Rex Petty presiding.
Burial will follow at the Liberal City Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation of America in care of the mortuary.
