ULYSSES – Richard Martin Long, 75, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at The Oxford Grand in Wichita.
He was born May 20, 1938, the son of Martin M. and Rosetta (Richardson) Long, in Liberal.
He married Verna Schoonover on June 23, 1956, in Syracuse, Kan. She survivies.
They moved to rural Grant County and started farming in 1960.
He enjoyed a rewarding career in farming for many years before retiring and moving to Pueblo, Colo., in 1996.
While in Pueblo, he and Verna both took great pleasure in competitive trap shooting.
They returned to Ulysses in 2000 where they continued to enjoy friends and family.
He and Verna then moved to Wichita in 2013.
He is survived by two sons, Martin E. Long and Michael T. Long, both of Ulysses; one daughter, Jennifer Feldt, Wichita; six grandchildren; eight great–grandchildren with two more on the way; and one sister, Joyce Cain, Denver, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Martin M. Long; and his mother, Rosetta (Richardson) Long.
• Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, with Pastor Janet Hernandez and Rev. Sam Bynum presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery.
