CANYON, Texas – Alton Wyatt Carpenter, 63, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, in Amarillo, Texas.
He was born Oct. 5, 1950, to Milton and Madge Carpenter in York, S.C.
He married Dayna Covington June 16, 1979, in Shamrock, Texas. She survives.
He graduated from Texas A & M in 1972 with a masters of science in animal science. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary whith a master of divinity.
He owned and operated Great Plains Semen Service in Shamrock. He served in churches in Oklahoma Lane, Texas, Texico, N.M., Borger, Texas, and Liberal.
He enjoyed the mountains and the outdoors.
Other survivors include his mother; five sons, Justin Carpenter and wife, Jessica, Canyon, Texas, Coby Carpenter and wife, Kelli, Fort Gibson, Okla., Chalen Carpenter and wife, Melissa, Canyon, Kade Carpenter and fiance, Ellie, both of Canyon, and foreign exchange son, Deniz Gokpinar, Istanbul, Turkey; one daughter, Ashli Carpenter, Amarillo; sister, Carolyn Childers and husband, Wayne, Gaffney, S.C.; two grandchildren, Kalen and Skye Carpenter; five nephews; and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his father.
• Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Living Water Christian Fellowship in Canyon with Pastor Shane Nease presiding.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Shamrock Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.
