Seward County commissioners are expected to vote on a chairman and vice chairman for 2014 at tonight’s regular meeting.

Ada Linenbroker served as head of the board for 2013, with Doug LaFreniere serving as the vice chair.

Following the commission’s reorganization, the board is scheduled to take action on an ongoing item from local business X-Treme Fitness.

Business owner Cliff Abbott met with the commission Nov. 18, 2013, to discuss getting a possible waiver to a provision to the county’s sanitation code requiring a business that serves more than 25 individuals more than 60 days a year to have a public water supply.

Additionally, the current septic system for the location was not designed or sized for this use and due to the location’s proximity to the City of Liberal sewer lines, connection to the public sewer is required.

After a lengthy discussion, Linenbroker and county planning and zoning director Marcie Weatherly agreed to a temporary solution until Abbott could meet the City of Liberal requirements and obtain water and sewer services for the location.

Abbott was scheduled to meet with the commission at its Dec. 16, 2013, meeting to update the board on what has been going on with the project.

This was after the commission took formal action to enforce the sanitation code as adopted.

Abbott is scheduled to meet with the commission tonight, and according to documentation in the agenda packet, X-Treme Fitness has done the following:

• Has been granted city water for use;

• Met with developers for continue talks about building property;

• Has started the process of annexation with the City of Liberal;

• The size of the septic system is not known, but it is working and has been working for the past year;

• There is no water fountain for public consumption; and

• Asking for permission to access city water and use bathroom for temporary time while commercial sewer line is installed.
