After a brief lead early in the first quarter, the Redskins found themselves chasing the Indians the rest of the night in a 78-49 loss at Hays.
The Redskins had a 5-3 lead after two quick stops in the first quarter, but a Hays three-pointer, a steal on the inbound pass and a lay-up led to an 8-5 lead for the Indians, and the Redskins continued to fall further and further behind against the No. 3 team in Class 5A.
Liberal had a chance early to keep the game close at the free throw line when Indian standout Brady Werth committed two quick fouls, but Britton Abbott missed all four free throws, and as a team the Redskins finished seven of 23 at the free throw line.
By half, Hays had a 39-17 lead and a 64-26 advantage after the third quarter.
Liberal (2-5, 0-1) will look to rebound Tuesday at Garden City (4-3, 1-1).
