After trailing by eight with a minute to play, Colby had a chance to tie the game with their final shot, but Jeremiah Ingram’s attempt missed, and the Saints survived a scare in Colby, 85-82.

Seward struggled at the free throw line, and that allowed Colby to have a final shot. The Saints only made 16 of 28 attempts in the second half.

Colby led by as many as five in the second half, but Seward was able to chip away and take a slight lead of their own with about five minutes to play.

Seward built an eight-point lead in the final two minutes, and Colby had to foul.

Colby was able to trim the Saints lead down to two with 13 seconds to play.

Malcolm Hill-Bey had a strong night for the Saints, scoring 26 points. Niem Stevenson was right behind with 23.

Brian Bridgeforth added 14, Secan Johnson had 12, and Quentin Purtue scored 10.

The Saints will open the Jayhawk West home schedule Saturday against the No. 12 Hutchinson Blue Dragons in a battle for first place.

Last year, Seward wrapped up the Jayhawk West title with a win over the Blue Dragons in the Greenhouse.
