The longer the game went between the South and West eighth graders Thursday at Warrior Stadium, the better the Warriors played.

West took the first match-up in 2014 in the crosstown clash, 50-9 in front of a near capacity crowd.

Cameron Riley hit a three in the first quarter to spark a 7-2 lead for the Warriors, and the Warrior defense did not allow an Apache field goal in the first half.

South only managed two free throws in the first two quarters, and the Warriors had an 18-2 lead at the break.

And the Warriors continued to pour it on in the second half.

Six Warriors scored in the third quarter for a combined 14 points to the Apaches three. Miseal Monarrez finally hit South’s first field goal in the third quarter as South trailed 32-5.

Riley added another three pointer in the fourth quarter for the Warriors and Hollis Fitzgerald also added a three-point shot in a quarter where the Warriors outscored the Apaches 18-4 for the 50-9 final.

Riley led the Warriors with 11 points, Javier Mendoza had eight, Fitzgerald added seven, Kris Workman had six, Tucker Deaton scored five, Brian Martinez had five, Ethan Hatcher added four and Alex Carrasco had four.

Dusty Torres led the Apaches with four. Jorge Hamaran had two, Monarrez scored two and Joel Olvera had one.
