The Balko Bison outscored the injury plagued Tyrone Bobcats 22-10 in the third quarter to surge ahead, then held on for a two-point win, 59-57.

“Too many turnovers, and too many layups will get you beat every time,” Bobcats coach Clay Witt said.

Missing four players due to injury, Tyrone has now lost three of four games, while Balko has now won four straight.

Tyrone seemed to be on track early in the game taking a 17-12 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The Bobcats continued to build on the lead, but late in the second Balko started to make their mover. The Bison were able to cut the Bobcat lead to just two by half, 28-26.

Balko then caught fire, inside and out. Wyatt Casper hit three treys and Dakota Jackson handled most of the scoring inside as Balko built a 10-point lead in the third quarter (48-38).

But Tyrone did not fade away. The Bobcats mounted a comeback, with Tanner Hurst hit a three and Nerlin Rivera hit a pair of them in the fourth, and a defensive switch as well.

“We had some foul trouble and switched from a man to a zone,” Witt said. “We were able to cut down on their ability to penetrate, and offensively we made a real effort to get the ball inside.”

Tyrone outscored Balko 19-11 in the fourth, two shy of sending the game to an extra period.

Balko’s Wyatt Casper led the Bison with 15 points, and Dakota Jackson added 14.

Willie Slater scored 18 for the Bobcats and Ethan Reece added 16.

Balko (10-4) will travel to Moscow Tuesday.

Tyrone (9-5) will travel to Texhoma Tuesday.
