The Lady Redskins overcame a slow start to knock off McCook Thursday in the first round of the Orange and Black Classic in Colby, 49-40.

Liberal struggled to slow down McCook in the first quarter. McCook jumped out to an early lead, and the Lady Redskins struggled to keep pace. Liberal trailed 14-5 in the first quarter.

But the Lady Redskins reversed the score on McCook in the second quarter, and it was McCook who struggled to get points.

The Lady Redskins continued to outpace McCook in the third quarter. Liberal extended to a 10-point lead by outscoring McCook 15-8 in the period to take a 37-27 lead.

McCook was able to trim the lead in the fourth quarter, but by the time the final buzzer sounded the Lady Redskins earned a 49-40 win.

Liberal (4-3), advanced to face Colby (5-5) who knocked off Burlington 47-27 in the first round.
