After an emotional loss to Colby Friday, the Lady Redskins struggled in the third-place game in the second and fourth quarters in a 63-53 loss to Hugoton for a fifth place finish at the Colby Orange and Black Classic Saturday.

The Lady Redskins had an 11-10 lead after the first quarter but struggled in the second quarter. The Lady Redskins only scored nine, but the Lady Eagles shot out to 18 in the period to take a 28-20 lead at half.

Both teams came out of the locker rooms hot in the third quarter, and the Lady Redskins were able to trim a point off the lead by outscoring Hugoton 24-23 in the period to head to the fourth quarter down seven.

But Liberal’s offense slowed in the final period, and Hugoton was abel to earn a 13-9 advantage in the fourth quarter to preserve the 63-53 win.

Jai Chapman scored 25, Jada Mickens had eight, and Mariela Nunez added seven.

Liberal will return to the Big House at 6 p.m. Friday to host Scott City
