Despite a distinct height advantage for Horace Good, South was able to erase an eight-point deficit and take a two-point lead in the second half before a late turnover and Hawk free throws led to a 36-30 loss.

Horace Good had a six-foot tall seventh grader that was able to block shots and make easy inside baskets, but South was able to neutralize the height advantage with quickness, and the Apaches and Hawks ended the first quarter tied 10-10.

But Horace Good made three three-pointers in the second quarter to take a 23-15 lead at half.

South battled back in the third and outscored Horace Good 10-2 to tie the game 25-25.

South took a 30-28 lead in the fourth quarter, but the Hawks were able to tie the game with a minute to play.

South had chances to retake the lead, but an inbound pass was stolen and converted into a lay-up for a 32-30 Hawk lead. Horace Good was able to make free throws to preserve the win.

Matthew Hernandez led the Apaches with 12 points.
