TYRONE, Okla.— Tyrone’s Tori Dumler and Alondra Aviles hit three 3-pointers each in the second half to help the Lady Bobcats pull away from the Turpin Lady Cardinals for a 44-36 win.

A basket by Turpin’s Annalyn Kirkhart game the Lady Cardinals a 22-20 lead just seconds into the third quarter. Tyrone then went on a 14-0 run that featured four three pointers, three by Aviles that put the Lady Bobcats up 34-22 with 2:28 left in the third.

“We started hitting those threes in the third quarter, and that was the difference in the game,” Lady Bobcats coach Clay Witt said. “After that we just held on.”

Tori Dumler hit her third and fourth threes of the game to start the fourth quarter to put Tyrone up 40-28 with 5:25 left.

Turpin got as close as nine (42-33) but could get no closer.

“First half we got in foul trouble with several starters on the bench with foul trouble,” Lady Cardinals coach Jeff Funk said. “We weathered that storm pretty well considering we were tied at half. They hit the threes and it hurt us. The effort was good, and they continue to fight hard.”

At the start of the game Turpin led 6-2, but Tyrone went on an 8-0 run to take the lead. Turpin answered back with a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead, 12-15 with 6:31 left in the half.

Tyrone got most of their scoring opportunities in the first half at the free throw line, but also left a lot of points their as well. The Lady Bobcats got to the line 20 times in the first half, but only made 9.

“Ugly game when they’re calling fouls the way they were; it’s hard to get any kind of flow going,” Witt said.

The Lady Bobcats reclaimed the lead when Kyleigh Ramirez drained a pair of free throws with 3:05 left (19-17).

Turpin was able to knot the game at 20 at half.

Tyrone’s Tori Dumler led all scorers with 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Alondra Aviles hit three threes for nine points, and Kyleigh Ramirez added 8.

Hannah Weber led Turpin with 11, and Trista Watson added 7.

Tyrone will travel to Keyes Friday. Turpin will be at Forgan.
