The Goodwell Lady Eagles started bombing away from 3-point range early and often, then barely held off a Lady Bison rally to pull the upset 47-46 over No.13 Balko.

Balko trailed 44-36 heading into the fourth quarter. Goodwell had already made 11 3-point baskets at that point.

Balko’s made their move, and rallied with a 10-3 advantage in the fourth, and held Goodwell without a field goal in the quarter. But the rally was one point short of sending the game to overtime as the Lady Eagles celebrated the upset victory.

Goodwell’s Shambri Kelso finished the game with 27 points, including six made 3-pointers. Shaylee Kelso contributed 9 points with all of them coming on first half threes.

The Lady Eagles hit four threes in the first quarter, but Balko hit a pair of their own and still led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter.

But Goodwell continued the outside onslaught with another four threes in the second quarter to outscore Balko 19-14 to take a 33-29 lead at halftime.

Goodwell hit another three threes in the third, while Balko failed to convert a field goal, getting all their points at the free throw line, as the Lady Eagles extended their lead to eight heading into the fourth.

Balko got a good chunk of their points throughout from the line, making 20 of 31.

Goodwell made 3 of 6 free throws in the fourth, just enough to hold on for the win.

Balko continued to struggle from the field, making on two field goals in the fourth, and 6 of 12 free throws.

Madison Dearmin led the Lady Bison with 16 points, including a pair of threes. Dearmin got to the line 14 times and made 8. Kylie Edwards added 10.

Balko (15-4) will travel to Boise City Feb.7.
