Eighteen Quilts of Valor enthusiasts from three states met Saturday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on National Quilts of Valor Sew Day. This is also Freedom Day, which is why QOV foundation chose this date.
More than 1,360 quilters across the United States and abroad registered to sew together to make quilts to “Wrap a Warrior.”
The women gathered in Liberal Saturday were from Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Two other quilters from Ellis and Olathe registered with the Southwest Kansas QOV Team and sewed at home.
Monetary funds and fabric were donated from local patriots to purchase the necessary materials for volunteers to make these meaningful quilts which send a hug of thanks and healing to our military.
On Saturday, two quilts which had been started previously were finished and labels sewn on them. Six quilt tops were assembled and others were started.
There is no match for the comarade established among these generous quilters. Those who didn't sew helped by cutting fabric, pressing and encouraging others.
