Trailing by 17 midway through the third quarter, the Lady Redskins put together an 18-2 run to cut Dodge City’s lead to one, but Liberal had nothing left after two opportunities to take the lead, and the Lady Redskins lost a Western Athletic Conference match-up, 54-43.

The Lady Demons used three-point bombs to put the Lady Redskins against the ropes in the first half. Two three-pointers lifted Dodge City to a 12-6 lead in the first quarter, and two more deep balls in the second quarter pushed Dodge City out to a 30-17 lead.

Midway through the third quarter, Dodge City converted a pair of free throws to take a 36-19 lead, the largest lead of the game.

Jada Mickens started the Liberal rally with a bank shot, and after a pair of missed free throws by the Lady Red Demons, Megan Besecker drained a three.

Before the quarter ended, Besecker nailed another three, and Carley Shelton opened the fourth with a basket in the lane to cut Dodge City’s lead to 38-30.

Besecker followed with another three, and Jai Chapman pushed in the lane to score two more baskets, and the Dodge City lead was slashed to 38-37.

Neither team scored for the next two minutes, and the Lady Redskins had a point-blank lay-up miss, and a mid-range jumper clank off the rim.

Dodge City put together  7-0 run to jump back to an eight-point lead, and threes by Mariela Nuñez and Jasmine Hernandez cut the lead back to five with a minute to play, but Liberal could not get any closer in the 54-43 loss.

Besecker led the Lady Redskins with 12 points, and Mickens added 10.
