Daily Leader staff report

Southwestern Heights coach Barry Mellen didn’t need to bring one of his strongest horses out of the stable just yet.

Deni Jacobs suffered an injury to her knee earlier against Beaver and has missed the last three ball games.

So far, the Lady Mustangs have been able to win without their star junior, although the schedule will get tough in a hurry.

But Friday night against Elkhart, Deni Jacobs was able to watch as the Lady Mustangs rolled to a 79-42 win.

Three Lady Mustangs scored 18 points in the win, including Lindsay Garinger, Kathy Eakes and Sheree Ryan.

In all, 10 Lady Mustangs scored.

Heights had a battle in the first quarter, only leading 15-14.

But the Lady Mustang defense took over in the second and Heights had a 34-19 halftime lead.

Six Lady Mustangs scored in the third, including seven from Garinger in a 27-point period that shut the door on any ideas of a Wildcat comeback.

Heights continued to outpace Elkhart in the fourth with an 18-13 performance in the 79-42 win.

The Lady Mustangs will host Leoti Tuesday at the Corral.
