West’s eighth graders ran into a buzz saw Monday when the Hugoton Eagles paid a visit to Warrior Stadium

The Eagles scored early and often, and the Warriors couldn’t keep pace after a strong start in the 41-18 loss.

West’s offense was clicking in the first quarter and four different Warriors combined to score 11 points.

But Hugoton’s offense was clicking, too, and the Eagles were abel to take a 12-11 lead after the first period.

Hugoton continued to find scoring chances, but the Warriors struggled to get shots to fall, and the Eagles extended their lead to 24-13 at half.

Both teams struggled in the third quarter, but West couldn’t take advantage, and West trailed 30-17.

Hugoton regained momentum in the fourth, and the Warriors made only one free throw in the final six minutes in the 41-18 loss.

Hollis Fitzgerald led the Warriors with six points. Cameron Riley and Bryan Martinez each scored five points, and Tristan Bigham added two.
