The formula to beat the Forgan Bulldogs finally came together in the regular season finale. First, a top notch athletic team playing on their home court with revenge on their mind after suffering a 25-point loss to the Bulldogs on a neutral court earlier this season, then a flu bug hitting at the right time to add that little extra nudge needed for a 70-68 win over the Forgan.

The two teams are assured they will not meet in the playoffs. Laverne in No.5 in Class A, while No.1 Forgan plays in Class B.

Early in the game it was Forgan's Trevin Lopez's offense that helped Forgan build a 19-16 lead by the end of the first quarter. Lopez scored 14 of those points on his way to a game-high 24 that included three 3-pointers.

Laverne bounced back to tie the game at 32 with a 16-13 advantage in the second thanks, in part, to a pair of threes by the Tigers' Trevor Harris. Harris finished the game with five threes and 22 points.

Laverne outscored Forgan 16-15 in the third to take a one-point lead into the fourth quarter (48-47).

Forgan had three players hit a three in the fourth, but Laverne got a small lead, then hit 8 of 9 free throws in the fourth to preserve the win. The Tigers finished the game 11 of 12 at the line. Forgan shot just four free throws in the game, making them all.

Besides Lopez's 24, it was Jace Kerr with 15, and Chandler Bryer with 11, including a pair of threes.

Forgan finishes the regular season (21-1) and will host Yarbrough in the first round of the district tournament Friday.
