TEXHOMA, Okla. — Addison Munsch scored 21 points as the Boise City Lady Wildcats used a second half surge to down the Beaver Lady Dusters 40-35 on Friday night in the first round of the Area 1, Class A, District 1 tournament at Texhoma High School. Boise City will play Texhoma tonight for the district title. Both teams automatically advance to the regional tournament, which begins Thursday in Laverne.
Beaver spotted Boise City a quick 3-1 lead as Munsch and Trina Wilson put the Lady Wildcats in the lead.
But Beaver would gets offense in gear and use some kep defensive srops to end the first quarter on a 9-0 run. Melissa Chavez gave Beaver its first lead of the game with two straight baskets, then Jacinda Balderrama got a steal and hoop for a 7-3 lead. Balderrama ended the quarter with a 3-pointer and Beaver led 10-3 after the first eight minutes.
The teams played evenly in the second quarter as Beaver led 20-13 at the break. Conner Sutton gave the Lady Dusters a 13-3 lead before the Lady Wildcats responded. Amy Rosas and Cjae Kell cut it to 13-6, but Balderrama helped push Beaver ahead 20-8. Munsch scored 5 points near the end of the period to bring BC to within seven at halftime.
Boise City grabbed the lead back in the third as Munsch alone went on a 10-0 run to open the second half and give BC a 23-20 lead. Kaitlin Kemp joined Balderrama in giving Beaver a 24-23 lead, Munsch put BC back up by two, Kemp tied it for Beaver and Averi Lansden gave Beaver a 29-26 lead with 30 seconds left in the third.
Balderrama and Lansden helped give Beaver a 5-point lead twice, before Boise City made its move.
Tristian Williams tipped the ball to Kiera Hardesty for a steal and Hardesty took it to the hoop to cut it to 34-32. Munsch tied it from the free throw line and, after Beaver’s Kemp gave the Lady Dusters a 35-34 lead with 1:12 left, Boise City ended the game with a 6-0 run to win it.
Beaver went 1-for-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
In addition to Munsch’s 21, Hardesty added 6 points for Boise City.
Balderrama scored 14 to lead Beaver, Kemp 9, Lansden 6, Conner Sutton 3, Madison Cates 2 and Kyndal Sutton 1.
