ELKHART – James Gene “Grumpy” “Red” Garner, 83, died Feb. 14, 2014, at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart.
He was born June 8, 1930, to James Edward and Sylvia Elizabeth (Brooke) Garner in Norton.
He attended school in Richfield.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He worked many years for the Morton County Road Department operating a road grader.
He enjoyed farming and trucking.
Survivors include one son, James Garner, Beatrice, Neb.; one daughter Julie Moon, Tyrone, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Ranell Garner, Jennifer Garner, Airen, Moon, Joshua Garner, Hailey Navarette, Jeffery Garner and Carley Moon and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, John Garner, and one daughter, Janell Garner.
• Graveside service was at 2 p.m. today at the Richfield Cemetery with the Rev. Sandy Ferguson presiding and military rites by VFW Point Rock Post No. 3162 of Elkhart.
There will be no public calling hours.
