The Liberal High School powerlifting team traveled to Augusta to participate in the Fourth Annual Augusta Powerlifting Invitational Saturday.

Liberal had a strong showing with 27 boys and 12 girls participating.  The boys were broken down into two divisions: Men’s — grades 11-12, Junior — grades 9-10 and the girls were all in one division.

The Liberal Men earned third place overall and had five lifters place. The Junior division had six lifters place and set five new meet records for the Junior division in their weight class (no team competition in junior).

The girls earned third place overall and had one lifter place.

The next meet is the 5A State Championship in Goddard March 1.


Liberal Girls – 3rd Place Overall

Riley Jones – 148 lb. – 3rd


Liberal Men’s Junior Division (9-10)

Joel Nunez – 140 lb. – 2nd

Jesus DeLaTorres – 156 lb. – 2nd

Ethan Chacon – 165 lb. – 1st and New Meet Squat Record (345) for Jr’s and Best Bench (220) in weight class

Alan Fraire – 220 lb. – 1st and Best Clean (225) in weight class

Dustin Berens – 242 lb. – 1st and New Meet Squat (365), Clean (255), and Total Weight (890) records for Jr’s and Best Bench (270) in weight class

Jacob Beeson – HWT – 2nd and Best Squat (385) in weight class

Aldo Villa – 220 lb. – New Meet Bench Record (270) for Jr’s in weight class

Liberal Men’s Division (11-12) – 3rd

Noel Leon – 123 lb. – 3rd and Best Bench (175) in weight class

Devin King – 132 lb. – 2nd

Erving Altamarino – 156 lb. – 3rd

Tavi Holguin – 172 lb. – 2nd and Best Squat (375) in weight class

Miguel Beltran – 198 lb. – 3rd
