The non-profit American Kids Inc., has set a free informational open talent search event for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Seward County Community College, Chorus Room No. H148, in Liberal.
“American Kids is developing a performing troupe in the area under the direction of our trained show producers, Bridget King and Sue Lillie,” Oklahoma Kids State Director Nathan Johnson said in a media release. “This is an opportunity to learn more about the Oklahoma Kids, division of American Kids by performing at this talent search.”
Children ages 3 to high school seniors can audition as soloists, duets, trios or groups.
Performers who would like to participate in the talent search should pre-register by calling Bridget King at 620-391-2915.
While this event is not a talent competition, the get-acquainted session will include talent search performances, how to join the local group and information on upcoming local, state and national competitions which are open and optional to all members of the 32-year-old non-profit organization.
A wide variety of prizes from cash to medallions and trophies for five age divisions are presented at the different levels of competition. High school seniors also qualify for college scholarships awarded annually.
“More importantly, American Kids is different from other talent competitions in the performance opportunities given the group’s membership outside of the competition, and this is what this open talent search is all about,” Johnson noted in the release. “Our emphasis is on character development using the performing arts experience as the vehicle. Because of the experience gained from being on stage, our members are better prepared for whatever they choose to do in life.”
