The Forgan Lady Bulldogs came up just short in a seesaw battle with the Buffalo Lady Bison Friday evening at Shattuck in the regional tournament.
Buffalo eventually won, 36-34.
“We had a hard time scoring all night,“ Lady Bulldogs coach Brett Trippet said. “They chased Nikki (Taylor) and KaDawn (McReynolds) all night and made it hard for them to score. Both team knew each other strengths and made it hard to score.”
Buffalo grabbed the early lead 10-8 in the first quarter, but Forgan fired back with a 16-12 advantage in the second to go up by two at half, 24-22.
“Early on we were getting some easy baskets, by taking advantage of their defense,” Trippet said.
Scoring got extra tight in the second half. Buffalo regained the lead with an 8-5 advantage in the third quarter to go up one (30-29) heading into the final stanza.
Both team combined for just 11 points in the final period, and Buffalo won by two points.
Gabby Morales led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points; KaDawn McReynolds and Alex McBee each added 7.
Forgan finishes the season 11-15.
“I thought we really improved throughout the season and by the end could and were competing with everyone“ Trippet said. “Our lone senior Cassandra Rodriguez did a good job stepping into the starting role this season with little playing time experience before this season.”
