The Lady Redskins had a tall task Saturday night in a road contest against the No. 5 team in Class 5A, Great Bend (13-2), and while the results were not known as of press time, it was clear that the Lady Redskins still had the inside track for the fourth seed in Class 5A Sub-State pairings.

At 7-10, the Lady Redskins had one more win than Maize South (6-12), but Maize South had two more losses, which gave the Lady Redskins a chance to secure the spot with a win in their final three games.

For that to happen, the Lady Redskins will have to defeat a team that beath them earlier.

The Lady Redskins dropped a game to Garden City, 58-40, but the game was more competitive than the score indicated.

The Lady Redskins also dropped a 54-43 contest at home to Dodge City, and the Lady Redskins would need to go on the road and steal a win form the Lady Red Demons.

The Lady Redskins are locked at either the fourth or fifth seed since the current third seed, Bishop Carroll, has 11 wins, and the sixth seed, Goddard, only has three wins.

For now, it appears Liberal and Maize South are ona collision course for the first round of Sub-State no matter which team ends up as four or five.

What is at stake is earning a home game in the first round, and if the Lady Redskins can keep a grasp on the fourth seed, Maize South will make the drive to Liberal for the four-five match-up.

The winners will advance to Goddard Eisenhower for the Sub-State championship game March 8.

Liberal’s final regular season home game will be 6 p.m. Tuesday when the Lady Buffaloes come to the Big House.
