Liberal had a chance to lock down the No. 4 seed in Sub-State pairings Saturday on the road at Great Bend, but instead the Redskins allowed the Panthers to jump into the race for the fourth spot. Liberal lost the Western Athletic Conference match-up 47-40 and dropped to 6-12 on the season.

Great Bend advanced to 6-11.

Liberal fell behind early and trailed 16-8 after the first quarter.

Great Bend struggled in the second quarter, but the Redskins could not capitalize and only trimmed two points of the Panther lead.

Liberal was within four points after three quarter, but the Redskins fell short in the fourth for the 47-40 loss.

Cade Hinkle led the Redskins with nine points, all three pointers. Britton Abbott and Blake Stout each scored eight.

Liberal will host Garden City Tuesday for senior night while the Great Bend Panthers face the undefeated Hays Indians.

Liberal needs a win to secure a first-round home game in Sub-State.
