Needing a win to head to the Sub-State tournament with momentum, the Lady Redskins had done everything they needed to do in the first half at Dodge City to guarantee a win.

But an early lull in the second half erased a seven-point lead and eventually ended in a 51-46 loss in overtime the Lady Red Demons.

Both teams relied on three-pointers early, but it was Dodge that came out ahead by knocking down four from long range to Liberal’s two to keep the game tied at 15-15.

But the Lady redskins ended the half on an 8-1 run to take a 23-16 lead at half.

With Jada Mickens dominating the paint defensively, Dodge City was forced to shott outside shots, and that was exactly what brought the Lady Demons back.

Dodge City made the frist three baskets of the second half, all three pointers, and Liberal’s seven point lead turned into a two-point deficit in the first three minutes of the second half.

Jai Chapman finally hit Liberal’s first basket of the second half with 4:48 to play n the third quarter when she connected on a deep three, and the Lady Redskins were ahead 26-25.

Dodge City responded with an old-fashioned three-point play, and by the end of the third quarter, Dodge City led by one points, 31-30, but had outscored the Lady Redskins15-7 in the third.

Dodge City built a three-point lead early in the fourth, but Mickens used her size advantage in the paint to keep the Redskins within one on the next two possessions.

Jasmine Hernandez game the Lady Redskins back the lead with 5:35 to play, 37-35, and Chapman followed with a shot off the glass to put the Lady Redskins ahead by four with 4:48 to play.

But Dodge scored the next eight points to take a 43-39 lead with 48 seconds to play.

Megan Besecker hit an inside shot, and after a bad shot by Dodge, Mickens tied the game with 40 seconds to play.

Neither team scored again in regulation.
