The Laverne Tigers have been a thorn in the side of the Beaver Dusters all season long. Beaver suffered two in-season losses to the Tigers, then both playoff losses as well, including a 55-47 loss on day two of the area tournament.

“We had another game plan going into this one with it being our fourth try,” Dusters coach Craig Schlessman said. “I think we executed it pretty well, but in the end they had some buckets fall and we didn't. It just didn't fall our way.”

Beaver looked to be in good shape with a new game plan against Laverne. The Dusters led 12-10 after one quarter of play and were up by three (21-18) at half.

“We put ball pressure on their shooters, and tried to make it where the other guys had to beat us, and that worked out well,” Schlessman said.

Laverne got their offense going in the third, scoring more points (19) in the quarter than they did in the entire first half.

With the 19-15 advantage in the third, Laverne took a one-point lead into the fourth, 37-36.

Laverne finished off the game with an 18-11 fourth quarter.

“The difference was they were able to knock down those shots in the second half with someone in their face,” Schlessman said.

Garrett Weber led the Dusters with 19 points, and Jorge Rivera added 9.

Beaver finished their season with an 18-11 record.

“It was a successful season,” Schlessman said.
