“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living”.
Nelson Mandela was one of the most respected, and probably the most loved individuals of all world leaders of today and the most enduring of the heroes who emerged from the political outbreaks of the 1980s. He personified the peaceful and rapid transition of power in South Africa that many had thought impossible, while his commitment to reconciliation was underlined by his own experience of personal sacrifice and forgiveness.
Being an African high school senior is a difficult job in today’s society, so many African American youth have given furthering their through education. Across America, in state after state, a decade of major reforms in education has so far failed to produce the anticipated improvement in the quality of our schools or the academic achievements of our students. I began to think that my educational achievement was no longer in the hands of other, but in the hands of myself.
My name is Morgan Pham. I was an attendee in the Early Graduates Program at Liberal High School. This meant that I had a long road of hard work, dedication, commitment, homework, and late night studying to receive the grades needed to reach my goal and it is finally here. I was able to graduate on December 15, 2013 and every time I would doubt myself I would read this scripture over and over Romans 10:9-10 “ that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved;” it made me be stronger to finish. In previous years, ancestors such as Nelson Mandela and so many others education was hard to come by. Africans Americans were not able to receive the education they deserve. Due to the immense struggles of the civil rights movement, I have that chance. I believe that in order for me to “have the life that I am capable of it will take hard work dedication as my predecessors. The ultimate reward knows that I have the opportunity to impact a young person’s life as Nelson Mandela has the entire world.
I was also a participant in the choir and one of the elite singers of the redskin singers. I also partake in community service within the community such as the donation room at the crisis center. And my mother and I take food to the elderly also the needy.
Rohlihlala Mandela but known to the world as the great “Nelson Mandela” he also kept me going forward. This man was determined, strong-willed and courageous. Nelson Mandela was the president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, also was part of the anti-apartheid revolutionary for twenty years. This man never gave up never let anything pull him down; when not finishing his Bachelor of Arts degree at Fort Hare because of being expelled for being involved in a protest he then studied through the University of South Africa and graduated at Fort hare in 1943. After college, he started as a clerk at the law firm, and then got elected for secretary of ANCYL, now he was a statesman. He stood up for his beliefs and others too he stood up for the non-violence protest which he was charged for encouraging workers to strike and leaving the country illegally and he spent twenty-seven years in prison. Till the day he died he still kept fighting for equality, human rights for us not to be segregated by our race. He fought for all people not just blacks or African American’s for everyone.
Nelson Mandela has made such a great impact not just on me but, the whole world. He let us know there is going to be obstacles in life that might trip us on the way but were going to fight for what we want and jump over them. My plans is to major in Psychology be a grief counselor in this field you help people through complicated or normal grief anyhow I like to help people that are in need plus I would want someone to do the same for me. And my minor is to be a CPA (Certified Public Accountant).
This scholarship will help me follow my dreams that the ones before us have plat formed. I know whatever I choose to do I’m going to work hard, never lose faith, and strive for my goals in life, and most importantly have no regrets. In the quote by Nelson Mandela to me he was saying we control how our life is we hold the blueprint as long as we have god first in our life he will guide us and he has the final say.
