“Specifications for the program have been announced,” he added.
“Excellence in both reading and mathematics for 2008. These two schools are MacArthur and McDermott.”
Prinicpals Shawna Evans and Kathy Fitzgerald accepted their awards as their peers in the audience cheered for them.
Welch was not finished with his presentation process following the acknowledgement of Evans and Fitzgerald. He also presented three board members with specially designed certificates nnoting thier execellence in leadership.
Board members receive points based on length and content of seminars which they attend. The idea behind the seminars is to make those in attendance better board members.
“Board members Dr. Jim Jury, Tammy Sutherland-Abbott and Dan Diepenbrock received awards from the Kansas Association of School Board’s by earning points for attending continuing education courses from the KASB and the National School Board Association,” Welch said.
In order to receive a Level 1 status, thus receiving a specially designed certificate, board members must accumulate 50 points to achieve Level 1 Status. Jury, Sutherland-Abbott and Diepenbrock achieved the status necessary for such recognition.
