Seward didn't have to win to be the Jayhawk West champions. They had already guaranteed themselves a share of the title earlier in the week with a win over Garden City.

But the Lady Saints weren't interested in sharing the title, and in about three minutes against Butler Saturday night in the Big House, the Lady Saints were working on a double digit lead, something they would grow throughout the game in a 96-43 rout.

The Lady Saints headed to the locker room led by standout Rachel Barnes who continued to polish her All American resume by scoring 33 points in the win.

The Lady Saints jumped and bounced their way to the locker room with the sophomores feeling it perhaps a bit more than the freshmen.

They were one game away form a national tournament appearance a year ago, and the win over Butler that gave that guaranteed another green banner for the legendary program was just another step to a bigger prize.

At one point late in the game, Seward coach Toby Wynn was so pleased with the way the Lady Saints were running the offense he said, "Good," when Morgan Skomal received a pass above the free throw line with no Lady Grizzly guarding her, and she took the shot.

It went in.

By that time, Seward already had a 77-44 lead.

But a flurry of baskets down the stretch  from Kendra Spresser and Sumer Robinett extended the lead to the 93-46 final.

After Barnes' 33, Robinett had a double double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Spresser, Megan Lassley and Shelia Washington each had 11.

The No. 13 Lady Saints (28-2, 15-1) will host Allen County (8-22, 1-13) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Green House to begin the Region 6 tournament.
