With the work being done on the mound, Liberal didn’t need to score many runs to win in a double header against Ulysses Tuesday to open the home schedule of the baseball season.

But they scored a lot of runs, anyway.

The Redskins swept the twinbill and only allowed two runs in 11 innings against the Tigers including a 16-1 run-rule win that was over in the fourth inning, and a 10-1 win in the nightcap.

Collin Ware took the mound in the opener, and after a lead-off single he picked the runner of first base and retired the next two Tigers for s scoreless first.

The Redskins pounded out hits early and pushed two runs across in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 lead.

After another scoreless inning for Ware in the second, the Redskins blew the game open with seven runs in the second inning

Liberal added four more in the third after another shutout inning from Ware, and Ulysses finally scratched a run across the plate in the top of the fourth after a Redskin error allowed the runner to reach first.

It meant very little when the Redskins added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 16-1 run-rule win.

Jared Hasik went three-for-four from the plate with a run scored and two RBIs.

Christian Erives crossed home plate three times in a two-for-four effort at the plate and added an RBI.

Law Greiner was solid behind the plate on defense and also contributed with his bat. Greiner scored twice and went two-for-three with an RBI.

Lorenzo Pando also scored with a perfect two-for-two performance at the plate.

Ware earned the win by only giving up three hits, one unearned run while striking out three and walking two.

Liberal started Game 2 much like they did in Game 1, only this time it was Hasik’s turn to shut down the Tigers with his arm.

Hasik threw a scoreless first, and the Redskin bats continued to belt out hits. The Redskins pushed four runs across the plate to take a 4-0 lead.

After another shutout inning, Liberal added two more runs in the second for a 6-0 lead.

The Redskins added single runs in the third and fourth innings to stretch out to an 8-0 lead, and Ulysses finally pushed a run across in the fifth.

Hasik ended his day on the mound after the fifth only giving up four hits and one run while striking out six and walking two.

Jared Fox came in relief and pitched two innings without giving up a run and striking out three.

Liberal added two more in the sixth for the 10-1 win.

Hasik not only pitched a gem, but he scored twice and went two-for-three from the plate.

Pando scored with a two-for-four performance at the plate and added an RBI.

Tim Fitzgerald scored twice and Angel Archuletta added an RBI.

Liberal improved to 2-3 and will head to Great Bend Tuesday to open the Western Athletic Conference schedule.
