TURPIN, Okla. — The Beaver Dusters handed the Turpin Cardinals their first home loss of the season in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader, 4-3. Turpin got back on track in Game 2 with a 4-1 win.

In the top of the fifth of Game 1, a badly misjudged ball hit to center turned a single into a triple and and scored Andrew Jesko to put the Beaver Dusters up 3-2. Castillo scored on a fielders choice to make the score 4-2.

In the bottom of the fifth Turpin's George Dominguez singled in Jordon Lujan to make it a one run game (4-3). Matt Young then reached on a fielders choice and advanced to third with two stolen bases with two outs. But Beaver's Andrew Linville got his fourth strikeout of the game to hold off the redbirds.

“We had some trouble giving up crucial runs in the final innings, but we came through today,” Dusters manager Casey Jones said. “Andrew (Linville) did a good job getting a strikeout to end the game with a runner on third. We still have to cut down on our errors, and we have a few kids struggling at the plate that weren't earlier in the season.”

Beaver had scored their first two runs back in the first inning. The Dusters had loaded the bases with by error, hit batsman, and then a walk. Chris Cates then singled to left-center to score two runs.

Both teams were held scoreless in the second and third innings. Beaver's Gunnar Lansden led off the fourth with a double, and the Dusters looked poised to add to their lead.

But after a walk loaded the bases, Lansden was caught between third and home for the third out, ending the scoring threat.

Turpin took advantage of the opportunity in the bottom half of the inning with Kyler Musgrave reaching on an error, and Dominguez getting on after being hit by a pitch. Young then singled to the outfield to score both runs to tie the game.

Beaver made to straight plays in the field to end the thread with a runner on third.

“Beaver came prepared to play and we didn't,” Cardinals manager Mario Mendoza said. “Linville did a good job keeping us off balance, but we left too many guys stranded. We also had some guys out with illness and injury, but that's going to happen and you have to have guys step up in those moments and we didn't get that today.”

Beaver's Andrew Linville picked up the win, giving up just two hits, two walks, and striking out four. Andrew Jesko and Fernando Castillo each scored two runs. Chris Cates was credited with two RBI, and Gunnar Lansden with a double.

For Turpin, Lujan took the loss, giving up just two hits, two walks, and striking out nine. Lujans was 1-1 with a run scored and a stolen base. Matt Young was 1-2 with two RBI and two stolen bases. George Dominguez had an RBI and a run scored.

In Game 2, Beaver struggled on the mound and in the field. Turpin scored four runs in the bottom of the first without recording a hit.

Beaver's only run also came in the first when Hadley Skaggs doubled in Jesko. Skaggs tripled in the third with just one out, but was unable to score.

Kyler Musgrave, Matt Young, George Dominguez, and Davian Ratzlaff scored runs for the Cardinals.

For Beaver it was Skaggs going 2-2 with an RBI.

Beaver (5-5) will travel to Laverne Thursday. Turpin (11-5) will host Hooker Thursday.
