Liberal High School has announced its Class of 2014 Valedictorian and Salutatorian.

The 2014 Valedictorian is Tristan McCallister, son of Clint McCallister and Brandi Boller.

Tristan has participated in track and field for two years. He has been a member of “That” Liberal Band and participated in “Les Miserables” in the Spring of 2013 with the LHS drama department.

He has been a member of National Honor Society for three years. Tristan was named a KU Honors Scholar and a Junior Rotarian.

He has received a Scholastic Gold Key in art and has been named Outstanding Student in AP studio art, AP European history, physics, honors earth and space science, trigonometry and AP English language and composition.

He is currently undecided on his college choice but plans to major in computer science or biological engineering.

The 2014 Salutatorian is Alicia Collins.

Alicia is the daughter of Bill and Cheryl Collins. She has one sister, Amanda Collins.

Alicia plans to obtain her bachelor’s degree in biology. She then plans to apply to medical school to obtain her doctorate of physical pherapy, after which she intends to find employment and eventually own her own physical therapy practice.

While at LHS, Alicia was in the Top 10 percent of her class each year, selected to the Principal’s and Superintendent’s Honor Rolls and the Western Athletic Conference All-Academic Team each year. Alicia was a triple threat athlete for three years.

She scored exemplary on the Kansas State Reading, Math and Science Assessment. She was named student of the year in various classes throughout high school. She participated in the Fort Hays State University Math Relays three years, won the local competition to advance to the regional competition of the Youth Entrepreneurship Business Plan Competition her junior year.

Alicia’s Science Fair team recently won the local and regional Science Fair competitions to advance to the state competition. Their team has been selected to compete in the State BioGenius Competition.

Alicia has been an active member of Student Council, Standout, Key Club, FBLA, and National Honor Society and has participated in volleyball, tennis, basketball and swimming, as well as being very active in the Liberal community.

She is an active member of First Southern Baptist Church, was a member of the Vision Group, was the 2012 Five State Fair Queen and coached Kids Inc. girls’ basketball. Alicia has acquired 396.5 community service hours while at LHS.
